These are a few of my favorite things!

If you get my weekly newsletter, you most likely read Midge’s question regarding my favorite “Beat The Heat” summer activity (if you don’t get my newsletter be sure and subscribe via the sticky note in the upper right corner of the blog). Here are a few thoughts I had on a few of my favorite summer activities. Molly

Dear Midge,

Well, it’s a toss-up.  My two absolute favorite things to do when the heat gets unbearable is to go swimming and hit the (air conditioned) library. Taking the kids to the pool is a great escape when the temperature sky rockets.  As a Christmas present idea, we asked for a family pool pass this year.  So, because our extended family was generous and granted that request we try and go to the pool as often as we can.  Packing a lunch, snacks and some drinks (usually water) helps to keep pool days fabulously frugal.  We spend as many hours as we can before the youngest child needs a nap or we’ve had our fill of sun (or water).

My second favorite thing to do when the heat rises is to visit our local library.  What’s not to love about free resources and air conditioning?  The kids enjoy browsing through the books, movies, games and magazines while lazily hanging out in the children’s section.  There’s always something new going on or being offered! I can usually get a few minutes to myself to thumb through a new magazine while the children are occupied. Wherever you go to survive the heat, I hope it’s somewhere fun!

Love ya, Molly

We live on a farm with several creeks. When it gets hot, splashing in the creek feels wonderful! It is shallow, but always cool and refreshing. How about water gun or water balloon fights, running under the sprinkler for little kids (and hot moms and dads),. Washing the car can be fun and refreshing, a hose fight can be wonderful!
Molly says: Great water ideas, those are sure to bring relief on a hot day!
